Ryan is doing a great job using the internet to market his business. He already does a lot of his own videos off of the iPhone and is using this video to market himself as a hard working, tech savvy and talented real estate professional.

Despite being a 30-something I would say he needs to hop on the Twitter wagon and start building relationships with people.

Last week I got an email from Donovan looking to see if I needed any more books printed. I understand that he is just trying to make sales happen and that followups are a necessary part of the business but this correspondence seemed, robotic, careless and self-interested.

To me this post clearly illustrates that if Donovan was following me on Twitter that he would know I am planning another Manitoba bike tour this fall, he would know that I likely will need new books printed for this endeavour and he could have sent me a message saying that he is excited about the Manitoba tour and ready to help if need be.

If he was following me on Twitter he would be able to cheer me on when I biked the Pacific Coast last spring, he would be able to help promote my bike touring and become a teammate and friend in my goal of helping to positively affect the world through bike touring.

Instead, all I get is a self interested one line e-mail that was clearly programmed into his calendar.

People often tell me they don’t want to get on Twitter because they have nothing interesting to say.

You can’t forget that Twitter is not a broadcasting tool, it is a listening tool. It’s not about you, its about everyone else.

Twitter is a listening tool where you can develop rapport, friendships and even do some business.

People buy from those that they like and Twitter is a perfect place for letting someone get to know you, find common ground and build a relationship.

Brent is an agent for Century 21 Bamber Realty. He was looking to raise the bar for video production in his market and I think that we have succeeded.

The video was shot over a few days during October 2011. Brent will be using this video on his site, attaching it to emails, embedding it in monthly news letters, to enhance his visibility to search engines as well as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Vimeo Etc.

I see this type of video as an excellent component to any professionals marketing mix. Professions that come to mind include lawyers, accountants, salon workers, personal trainers and yoga instructors.

This video was shot in September of 2011 for Brandon, Manitoba based commercial contractor Excel Design & Construction.

They were excited to create this video because it gave them an opportunity to showcase their commercial building skills at a variety of projects around Brandon including the new Best Western on the Trans Canada Highway as well as the high-security bullpen at the Brandon Correctional Center.

The video was focused on the things that set Excel apart from their competitors like having a safe, upbeat, respectful work environment that boosts productivity and makes their clients happy.

This video will be displayed on their website as well as to improve their search engine visibility and be used to attract new clients, hire sub-trades and employees and help tell their story.

Also during this project we shot a series of 3 – 15 second ads that they are using on the Jumbotron at Brandon Wheat Kings Games

Below is a rough, 2 minute version of my pitch.

Hi I’m steve Langston. Since 2006 I have been on a bike touring tear that has taken me across the world.

I am the author of Canada by Bicycle, the only guide for biking across Canada, availably nationally at MEC and across the globe on the web.

My website and book is globablly significant and I am working hard on the web to build up my personal brand.

When not bike touring I run my production company Dirty T Shirt Productions out of Winnipeg, MB.

Today I am pitching you on Tailwind, a pilot show for a interactive TV series.

During September of 2012 I will cycle cycle 1200 kilometers around my home province of Manitoba following another one of my books, Manitoba by Bicycle.

During this time myself and my team, with no support vehicle will bike, film our adventures and explore the province while sustaining ourselves on only locally sourced food.

Our adventures will take us to flour mills, farm gates, markets and hunting and gathering in the wild.

Bike touring connects you to the land like no other activity. You understand watersheds, soil types and bio diversity because you are immersed inside of them.

This interactive project will be on TV as a 22 minute show, we will be shooting daily webisodes off of the iPad and the hand held portion will be an app as a guidebook where people can contribute pictures, information and insight from their travel.

The time is right for this TV show, travel, adventure, sustainability and cooking are some of the hottest topics in entertainment and there are millions of people feeling disenfranchised and looking to alternative, life changing views on transport, diet and sustainability.

This project offers numerous opportunities for sponsors including mobile devices, outerwear and environmentally progressive organizations and it will be my relentless pursuit of this goal that ensure the project will be a success.
